The South Pole was a geographical location on Earth. It's original position was Antarctica, making it at the bottom of the world.

During the 2012 Apocalypse, the South Pole was shifted due to the Earth Crust Displacement.
The South Pole's location shifted more than a thousand miles. When the crust stopped shifting, the South Pole's original position is now where Wisconsin was, and due to the Earth's poles reversing their magnetic fields and the North Pole is now somewhere in the Indian Ocean.
