The South Pole was a geographical location on Earth. It's original position was Antarctica, making it at the bottom of the world. During the 2012 apocalypse, the South Pole was hit by earthquakes and due to the Earth Crust Displacement, the South Pole's location shifted more than a thousand miles. When the crust stopped shifting, the South Pole's original position is now where the South American continent was, and due to the Earth's poles reversing their magnetic fields, the South Pole is now in possible somewhere in the Indian Ocean, while the North Pole is now in Wisconsin.
In the aftermath of the apocalypse, the South Pole's original position was rendered uninhabitable.
