It's shown that during the 2012 Apocalypse, a massive earthquake had hit the city. CNN aired the scene which received footage from Rede Globo about the fate of Christ Redeemer, showing the statue crumbling down after being hit by a massive earthquake. The scene about the news of a massive earthquake in Rio de Janeiro was watched by Dr. Adrian Helmsley, Carl Anheuser and few staff members in the White House. The remains of Rio were presumably wiped out by a mega-tsunami, during the Worldwide Flooding.
Rio de Janeiro is currently submerged underwater and is rendered uninhabitable due to the apocalyptic disasters.

Trivia
- The scene where the statue of Christ the Redeemer fell over the people in Corcovado gathered the bad attention of Catholics, which said this scene was way too offensive, which resulted in Catholics asking for modernization.
