Hawaii was the most recent of the 50 U.S. States (August 21, 1959), and was the only U.S. state made up entirely of islands. It was the northernmost island group in Polynesia, occupying most of an archipelago in the central Pacific Ocean, southwest of the continental United States, southeast of Japan, and northeast of Australia. Hawaii’s diverse natural scenery, warm tropical climate, an abundance of public beaches and oceanic surrounding, and active volcanoes made it a popular destination for tourists, surfers, biologists, and volcanologists alike. Due to its mid-Pacific location, Hawaii has many North American and Asian influences along with its own vibrant native culture. Hawaii has over a million permanent residents along with many visitors and U.S. military personnel. Its capital was Honolulu on the island of O'ahu.

Hawaii was going to be the fuel stop for the Antonov 500, but when they were nearing closer to the state, they saw that the entire island was obliterated by major volcanic eruptions and lava flows which destroyed entire cities and regions on the island and the skyscrapers were on fire with few collapsing. Therefore, they lost the chance of refueling the plane and they came up with a plan to land somewhere in the South China Sea because Antonov 500's landing gear was lost and broken in Las Vegas.
