The world as we know it... will soon come to an end
~ Thomas Wilson during the G8 meeting

People will get it all! The forces of Mother Nature will be so devastating that it will bring an end to this world in winter solstice 12-21-12
~ Charlie Frost in his animation

The 2012 Apocalypse was a catastrophic phenomenon that occurred on Earth. The cause of the apocalypse was a drastic temperature increase within the Earth's core caused by mutated neutrinos from a massive solar flare in late 2009, which rendered the Earth's crust severely unstable.

History[]

Background[]

The ancient Mayas discovered that Earth eventually will end. According to their calendar, this will happen in end of the fourth "world cycle", on December 21st, 2012.

The calendar was soon discovered and deciphered by archaeologists. When the information on the calendar was spread globally, some people were convinced of its accuracy. The majority however, dismissed it as a mere myth with no basis in science.

Theories of the Apocalypse[]

In 1958, Professor Charles Hapgood published his theories of Earth Crust Displacement and pole shifting.

Rise in Core Temperature[]

In 2009, Adrian Helmsley visited Satnam Tsurutani in Naga Deng Copper Mine, India and discovered that neutrinos from a massive solar flare were causing a physical reaction, causing the temperature of the Earth's core to rapidly increase. Adrian reported this to United States Chief of Staff Carl Anheuser, who takes him to meet the President of United States, Thomas Wilson.

Preparing for the Apocalypse[]

In 2010, President Wilson met the other G8 leaders during the 2010 G8 Summit to begin a top secret project to ensure humanity's survival. The project included the building of Arks in Cho Ming Valley under the disguise of a dam. Tickets sold at €1 billion per passenger gave additional funding to the project. The world governments kept the upcoming apocalypse confidential in order to prevent civil unrest. In 2011, several cultural treasures from all over the world were moved to the Arks.

Surface Cracks Form[]

Small earthquakes start to strike the area around Los Angeles, creating massive surface cracks in Manhattan Beach, and later splitting Grayson's Market in half while it was open for business. Luckily, no one was injured or killed.

The Apocalypse[]

An earthquake struck California, splitting open the ground and causing Los Angeles to crumble into the Earth's crust, as the San Andreas Fault was shifted and the whole Pacific Plate was destabilized.

Later that day, the Yellowstone Caldera erupted, creating an enormous ash cloud with engulfed the park and the rest of the Wyoming, and eventually the rest of the United States.

Meanwhile, the White House was being evacuated. Adrian and Anheuser watch a CNN report that massive earthquakes were hitting South America, which destroyed the famous Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro. Simultaneously, the 2012 Summer Olympics in London were cancelled due to riots and massive destruction caused by earthquakes. Globally, preachers of various faiths warn the end of the world is imminent.

The Curtis family and Gordon arrived in Las Vegas, which was in ruins due to its own earthquake. The Yellowstone Ash Cloud made its way to Las Vegas soon after, engulfing what was left of the city. Several hours later, the group flew to Honolulu to refuel, but discovered that every volcano on the island has erupted, causing the surface to be completely covered in lava.

Later, the Yellowstone Ash Cloud reached DC, although the city was spared due to its large distance from Yellowstone. An earthquake soon after strikes DC, causing the Washington Monument to collapse. Shortly after the St. Peter's Basilica Collapse occurred, resulting the death of the Italian Prime Minister, the Pope and many others present, the Earth's crust finally began to shift more than a thousand miles, and gigantic megatsunamis formed by it rapidly flood the entire planet, resulting in the deaths of billions of people and flooding entire continents.

During this point, a megatsunami approached the Nampan Plateau, and that wave started to flood the Indian subcontinent, and eventually would reach the site where the Arks were. One of these Arks would be set adrift and flooded, but would ultimately survive before colliding with Mount Everest.

Aftermath[]

Much of the world was destroyed. Over 6 billion people died during the apocalypse and humanity became critically endangered. 26 days after the Worldwide Flooding occurred, global floodwaters from the tsunamis start to recede, allowing the remainder of mankind to begin a new life in Africa. The Earth is shown with a completely different landscape where Africa and other landmasses have risen in the aftermath of the apocalypse.

Trivia[]

  • The Earth Crust Displacement theory was based on the fictional significance of the Mayan Long Count Calendar.
  • Contrary to the popular idea spread through the cinema industry and reinforced by the Western eschatological view, the Mayan Long Count Calendar never predicts that the world would end on December 21, 2012. The calendar actually predicts the end of the fourth “world cycle” and consequently the beginning of a new cycle of 13 baktuns, i.e., approximately 5,125 years.
    • It also makes no sense whatsoever that the ancient Mayas were the only people that accurately predicted the exact date of the apocalypse with the help of their calendar. Those who were known for their astronomy such as the ancient Mesopotamians, the ancient Egyptians, the ancient Greeks etc never gave their own predictions of such apocalyptic date, least of all produced their own versions of such calendar, not to mention the world's major religions as well - Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Zoroastrianism, Hinduism, Buddhism, Taoism etc, just to name a few.
    • Scientifically, neutrinos are super small and super-fast, and can travel through matter almost undetected. Physicists construct huge underground devices in hopes of detecting only a few. They have been known to interfere with radio waves, but they are neutral particles, which do not interact with physical substances. Even huge quantities of them would be incapable of heating up the Earth's core. Even if neutrinos were capable of interaction with physical substances, their presence would start wreaking havoc on the Earth's surface long before reaching the core.
    • If planetary alignments are to occur, their effects on Earth would be negligible. One major alignment occurred in 1962, for example, and two others happened during 1982 and 2000. Each December both Earth and the Sun align with the approximate center of the Milky Way Galaxy but that is an annual event of no consequence.
    • A polarity reversal in the rotation of Earth is scientifically impossible in real life. There are slow movements of the continents (for example Antarctica was near the equator hundreds of millions of years ago), but that is irrelevant to claims of reversal of the rotational poles. However, many of the disaster websites pull a bait-and-switch to fool people. They claim a relationship between the rotation and the magnetic polarity of Earth, which does change irregularly, with a magnetic reversal taking place every 400, 000 years on average. As far as we know, such a magnetic reversal doesn't cause any harm to life on Earth. Scientists believe a magnetic reversal is very unlikely to happen in the next few millennia.
      • For these reasons, NASA deemed 2012 as the most scientifically unrealistic film ever made.
